On two wheels to work: role models at Galliker
Sustainability is a way of life at Galliker. More and more employees are consciously choosing not to travel to work by car. Their stories are inspiring - and show how sustainability can be integrated into everyday life in a very practical way.

After a brief absence,André Christen has been "back" in quality management at Galliker for 11 years and cycles to work without exception. Even in the most adverse weather conditions, he can't be dissuaded from cycling. As he lives in Altishofen, like many of his colleagues, he is convinced that even more people could make the switch: "It's an important contribution that many people can make with just small changes to their everyday lives." If it really doesn't work out, for example during heavy snowstorms, André simply walks to the office in LC2.

Corsin Fellmann, a commercial apprentice, has also made a conscious decision to cycle. His short commute to work makes it easy for him to organize his everyday life sustainably: "With such a short journey, I think you have to attach importance to sustainability." Corsin is proud of the fact that he has never cycled to work without his bike. If he did have to, he would switch to public transport.

Riccardo Chirra from the IT team combines cycling not only for his commute to work, but also for everyday errands. He currently lives in Altishofen, but has also proven in other regions that longer distances are no obstacle for him: "Back in Ticino, I cycled 13 kilometers to work with an elevation gain of 500 meters." For Riccardo, sustainability and fitness are equally important.

David Brennwald, Technical Returns Clerk, has been combining the bike and the train to get to work for a year now. He uses this environmentally friendly option once a week - as often as his family commitments allow: "As I pick my son up from after-school care on some days, I'm unfortunately unable to switch to my bike more often. But I hope to be able to fit in an extra day next year." For David, sport is the biggest motivation for cycling. His family would also like to do without a second car for financial and environmental reasons. Instead, they are considering switching to a hybrid vehicle in the future - as a compromise between sustainability and suitability for everyday use: "A purely electric car is out of the question for us, as we travel a lot in the mountains. We go biking or hiking in summer and skiing in winter. We simply need space." In addition, his family has already installed solar panels in their vacation home, which they are very happy with.

For Marcel Huber, Team Leader Portiers,, the bike has been his first choice for commuting to work for 22 years. "I only live three kilometers away. On the one hand, such short journeys are not good for the car, and on the other, you are helping to reduce the volume of traffic," he emphasizes. Marcel also sees potential for the company Galliker: "A bonus system could also motivate employees to collect kilometers and donate to sustainable projects."

These personal stories show that sustainability is more than just a buzzword at Galliker. The employees actively exemplify it and prove that even small steps in everyday life can have a big impact. Many thanks to all the employees who have given us an insight into their thoughts and attitudes on the topic of "sustainable commuting"!
